After at least 13 years, Black Serpents WeHo (formerly Golden Daggers) is closing its doors at the end of this month. I am grateful to have been a part of it for the past 2 years, and had the pleasure of tattooing so many of you there, while watching the absurdity that is Melrose Ave through the big front windows.

Throughout that time, I’ve also been tattooing at Black Serpents DTLA, which will now become my primary location in Los Angeles. It is a beautiful space with 30 ft ceilings, oddities and curiosities adorning the walls, and an exceptional group of resident and guest artists- many of whom are already familiar faces.

Aside from the location change, everything else about the tattooing experience will stay the same! My books are open and I’m excited to take on a wide variety of projects. See my books opening post for more details.

I hope to see many of you there, and thank @juliothemonster and @rockydarkroads for keeping the family together under one roof 🫶

As you may have heard, I will be tattooing at the downtown LA @blackserpents__ location starting mid September! It is a beautiful space, and I’m looking forward to seeing you there. More details to come in a separate post soon

And for those who wondered if I may be moving, it looks like I’m staying in LA for the time being. I still plan to travel plenty, so keep an eye out to see if I’m coming to your city.

Thin lines, bold lines, different tones and styles of shading- how will they age? Will they hold? The only way to know is to look at a healed tattoo and see for yourself. This one is about 14 months healed, and I’m very pleased with how it’s aging.

Take a look at your own tattoos. Have the lines thickened with time? Shading become smoother? Lighter? Darker? The way tattoos age is fairly predictable and should be taken into account during the design phase. There’s no sense in trying to fight the inevitable spreading of ink, but certain techniques can mitigate it, and if a tattoo is the proper size, it will age gracefully. Healed tattoos do have a certain charm.

In the grand scheme of things, this is still a relatively short amount of time! I’m excited to see it in 5 years, and confident it will hold.
